I cried as I wrote my first-ever letter while I was in primary school. Its content was dictated by an uncle who strongly believed that I would be a journalist. My tears and dread of writing evaporated with that assignment. Today, writing brings out the best in me. As my uncle predicted, I made a career of journalism and it peaked with my appointment as Editor of Business Times, a member of the Daily Times Group. Prior to editing Nigeria’s then oldest business newspaper, I had been Business Editor of TheNEWS magazine.
Before and after journalism, life in advertising and public relations consultancy had made me manage media relations and issues/crisis communications in Nigeria and across West & East Africa for some of the world’s best-known brands in aviation; entertainment; technology; mobile telephony and insurance. I am proud of my work in managing post-acquisition business communication/branding and cultural integration issues across various market jurisdictions in Africa.
People who should know say I am good at what I do. The evidence? In 2001, I won the ‘Investigative Journalist of the Year’ award (Nigeria Media Merit Awards). In 2010, I was elected Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Managers’ Committee of the Nigerian Insurers Association (CAMCONIA). Peer recognition is truly humbling. And the ‘feel good’ factor is exhilarating. Professionally, I do not fly-by-night; I mix with the best as an Associate of both the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON).
I have warehoused my writing skill and perception management capability under one roof as the Lead Consultant/Chief Executive of Strategic PRWox Ltd, a firm of biographers and public relations consultants.
